USCB: $2.2B in July Steel Imports, Slightly Up From June but Down Year-to-Date
The U.S. Census Bureau announced today that preliminary July steel imports were $2.2 billion (2.0 million metric tons) compared to the preliminary June totals of $2.1 billion (2.0 million metric tons).
The July change in steel imports based on metric tonnage reflected decreases in reinforcing bars, wire rods, and blooms, billets, and slabs. Increases occurred in all other metal coating sheets and strips, tin plate, and oil country goods. Decreases occurred primarily with Brazil and Canada. Increases occurred primarily with Korea and Mexico.
The year-to-date final statistics through June 2025 showed steel imports of 13.3 million metric tons compared with 13.9 million metric tons through June 2024. The largest commodity decreases occurred with galvanized hot dipped sheets and strips and hot rolled sheets. Increases occurred with tin plate and blooms, billets, and slabs. The largest country decreases occurred primarily with Canada and Mexico. Increases occurred primarily with Germany and India.
