Navigating the Continuing Education Requirements

If you’re a licensed customs broker (LCB), continuing education (CE) is now officially part of the job. CBP’s CE requirements took effect on January 1, 2025, making it important to understand how credits are earned, tracked, and reported.

We know this can feel a little overwhelming at first, so we’ve gathered answers to the questions we hear most often. General Information

Can I earn CE credits by attending your webinars?

In many cases, yes. We submit information about our webinars (and other events, though these FAQs focus on webinars) to NCBFAA in advance for accreditation. This means you may be eligible to earn CE credits simply by attending and learning something useful. These credits can typically be applied toward maintaining your customs broker’s license or certifications like CCS, CES, MCS, or MES, depending on each session is accredited.

Is it possible to get additional proof of attendance besides the code?

How do I get LCB CE credits from your webinar?

Short answer: Keep the code. During the webinar we provide a code. That code is your proof that you attended, so be sure to save it somewhere safe. Each broker is responsible for tracking their own credits and maintaining records. If you enjoy light reading, 19 CFR 111.102 covers what to keep and for how long. To make things easier, we’ve created a spreadsheet to track CE credits that you can download which is included below these FAQ. It’s the same one we use internally to keep everyone’s information in one place, and you’re welcome to use it too. It may evolve over time, but it’s a solid place to start.

How do I track my CE credits if I have an NCBFAA certification?

I’ve been logging my CE credits on your spreadsheet. What’s next? Do I submit it somewhere?

Troubleshooting Codes

The code isn’t working on the NCBFAA website. Can you help me?

Usually this is because of something simple, and we can absolutely help with that! It’s worth double-checking the code you entered, since zeros and O’s and ones and I’s love to impersonate each other. You’ll also want to make sure you’re including all the dashes. Then confirm you’re using the correct link, since each webinar has separate codes for the live session and the on-demand (recorded) version, and they do not mix. Still stuck? Feel free to email us at train@starusa.org with the code and a screenshot if possible, and we’ll help you troubleshoot.

I watched the recording but didn’t receive a code. Can you send it to me?

I attended live but didn’t catch the code. Can you help me?

We can certainly try! Send us an email at train@starusa.org and we’ll check our attendee records. If you joined using a different email address or by phone, please be sure to include that information. If we can verify that you were present for the required length of time, we’ll send the code your way. If we can’t confirm your attendance, the recording is always a great fallback since it comes with its own code.

I watched the recording and heard the code is different from the live version. Can you send me the correct one?

Licensed customs brokers are responsible for maintaining their own continuing education records and ensuring they meet the required credit total within each reporting period established by U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Your tracker should include course titles, providers, completion dates, and the number of CE credits earned so you’re prepared if documentation is requested.
