Prior to the Customs Modernization Act, the U.S. Customs service was responsible to determine goods were eligible to be imported, that they were correctly marked and classified and proper duties paid. The rule has changed...importers are now directly responsible for accurate filing of import data.
Does U.S. Customs have a "target" list?
Part of the Customs strategy is to focus on key importers which are part of the Primary Focus Industries (PFI's) and Watchlist. These are importers identified as industries "vital to our economy and directly impacted by the level of compliance with trade laws."
Targets include:
